Since the year 2000, the rapid increase in consumer demand for audio
visual digital products, in particular digital cameras, has stimulated
double digit growth in global sales and production of small memory
cards. Although about 60% of the small memory cards produced in
2003 were used in digital cameras, this number is expected to change
to meet the increased demand for memory cards to be used in mobile
phones. By 2006, the mobile phone is expected to overtake the digital
camera as the number one consumer product using small memory cards.
According to IDC reports, there will be at least 110 types of removable
memory cards produced for mobile phones this year and production
volume will reach 246.8 million compared to the 157.3 million produced
last year.
For today・s consumer, the mobile phone is no longer
just a telephonic device but an instrument that includes multiple
functions ranging from transferring multimedia information, taking
pictures, playing music and movies, surfing the Internet, to checking
email and playing games etc. All these additional functions require
storage capabilities that exceed those available in mobile phones
in today・s market. Going forward, the ideal mobile phone for the
discerning consumer is one that not only has large embedded storage
capacity but also enables expandable storage with the use of memory
cards, driving the application demand for small removable memory
cards into an upward trend.
KINGMAX accurately predicted this trend and focused
on developing and producing small memory cards that meet the customer・s
storage needs of capacity, stability and speed. In 2005, KINGMAX
intends to aggressively launch a varied range of small memory cards
for mobile phones, including the high-speed MMC card built on the
core MMC technology. This MMCmobile product not only provides dual
voltage (1.8V / 3.3V) compatibility but with its 13 PIN transmission
capability it has backward compatible with the generic RS-MMC which
applies 7 PIN transmission. What is most noteworthy is that MMCmobile
supports transmission speed of up to 52Mbps/sec, a first for small
memory cards anywhere in the world. In addition, the thumb-sized
MicroSD (T-Flash) card for mobile phones, the smallest portable
memory card that supports a transmission speed of 12.5 Mbps/sec
launched by the SD association in 2004, has become the industry
standard. With a number of key mobile phone manufacturers already
beginning to adopt this standard, the future of the small memory
card as a key component in the industry looks extremely promising.
The high speed flash memory cards produced by KINGMAX
include the ever familiar MMC, RS-MMC and miniSD, all of which are
lightweight, portable, shockproof and, on top of all that, provide
high speed transmission. Built on KINGMAX・s patented PIP? (Product
in Package) technology, KINGMAX・s products also possess the unique
capabilities of being water-resistant and shockproof. In today・s
world of the relentless pursuit of high quality digital living,
consumers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their demands
for convenience powered with advanced technology. With the ever
growing demand for multi-functional intelligent mobile phones and
a corresponding need for more advanced and higher storage capacity,
the lightweight high-speed high capacity memory card is well positioned
to meet this need. Indeed, the forecast is that by 2006 the mobile
phone industry will be a key market for the small memory card.
